For Ben and Lauren

Sorry I missed you.

I drove up to St. Pete to say this in person and you were in a meeting, so I said it to a camera instead. Short version: I saw the job posting and I think we could be a great fit for a lot of reasons, but I would rather show you than tell you.

Roughly how I would build this out. All of it is worth talking through properly.

Phase one

The brand film

You and Lauren started this in 2013 with a shared idea about what a St. Pete house should be, and thirteen years later there are three hundred of them. Right now that story only lives in your testimonials. I want the film that covers what it actually took to get here, including the parts that were hard, because that is what a client is really deciding on when they hand someone eighteen months of their life.

A sample of a past brand film

Different business, same idea. Two people, why they started, and what it took to get here.

Phase two

The new build documentary

When a home finishes, I sit down with the project manager who built it. Why that roofline, what the client fell in love with, what went wrong and how the team solved it. Every completion becomes an episode instead of a photo gallery, and you end up with a library that sells the next house.

Two we made recently

Same idea, a finished home and the person who built it.

Phase three

Under the Canopy

Your blog becomes a podcast. You interview the St. Pete people you already know, the architects, the suppliers, the neighborhood businesses, and one conversation turns into an episode, three or four reels, a written transcript for the site, and a carousel. Canopy stops being a builder that posts and becomes the place St. Pete goes to hear about St. Pete.

An hour with you and Lauren.

Not a pitch meeting. I would rather sit down with the two of you, hear how you actually want Canopy to be seen, and tell you straight whether we are the right people for it. Bring the hard questions. If it is not a fit I will say so.
